James Jackson Jr… I Love Myself When I’m Laughing

Last weekend I attended my dear friend James Jackson’s newest creation, “James Jackson Jr… I Love Myself When I’m Laughing” at Joe’s Pub. This was James’ 2nd show at Joe’s and 3rd rendition of his concert series. There is word that he may become a regular at Joe’s Pub…. They just can’t get enough of him and neither can we! If you missed it – don’t worry – I’m sure another adaptation of his smash concert is already in the works. I’ll be sure to let you know when it happens!

Smart selections from artists like Adele, Gladys Knight, and even, yes, my favorite, The Indigo Girls were beautifully performed in this more vulnerable concert about life and love – the way James Jackson sees it (and feels it). The audience laughed and cried with James, and loved every minute of it. His amazing band included Elliot Roth on piano, Mike Chiavaro on bass, and Paul Amorese on drums. Musical guest Melissa Hammans sang a duet with James that brought the house down! It was a magical night and I’m so glad I was able to capture some of the wonderful moments for you. I cannot wait for the next one!

Studio Lighting with Marcie

Last week I got the chance to play around in the studio with various lighting options. My model was Marcie – the beautiful musical theatre actress you see in these images. Thanks Marcie – you were such a pleasure to work with!

The mission: I had 10 minutes to shoot using 4 lights which I could position any way I wanted to get “the shot.” Not sure which one of these is “the shot” but I sure do like them all a whole lot. Which one is your favorite?

I tried as many variations of lighting as I could. I also played around with color and motion, as you see in the umbrella image above.

I like shooting outside a lot, but boy do I love the studio!

A couple of months ago, my good friend James performed his heart out for an audience at Joe’s Pub in his emotion packed show “James Jackson Jr… and Other Lies.” These are some of the pictures from that amazing night. Conveniently enough, he will be performing a 3rd rendition of his hit concert, “James Jackson Jr… I Love Myself When I’m Laughing” this Sunday, April 15th 2012.

Of the show he states the following:

“I Love Myself When I’m Laughing…& Then Again When I’m Looking Mean and Impressive” ~Zora Neale Hurston

Let’s bring it back to Joe’s Pub, people. It’s time. There’s nothing else you should be doing except for your taxes….so there’s no excuse.

It’s just me and the boys in the band. Come on down and watch this new on-stage therapy session. You know you wanna.

The nonsense level is bound to be high, the liquor will be flowing, and there may even be a Caesar salad to be had.

I promise to keep all of my clothes on.

Bryn Turns 13

Last month, I ventured to Breezy Point, NY to photograph Bryn’s 13th Birthday Bash. I was in a sea of teenagers (about 100 to be exact) and was asked to capture photobooth-type photos for her dance party. We had a beautiful backdrop of pink and purple stripes and boy, did these kids get into it (especially the boys)! Afterwards, they got pumped up on sugar and hit the dance floor. I wish I had had one of these bashes when I turned 13!! It was a lot of fun.

The Garden State

So, as you may know, I took another class this semester at FIT. This one was PH 171 – The Digital Darkroom. In this course, we learned (mainly) all about DAM (Digital Asset Management) software through Adobe Lightroom. Throughout the semester, were were given multiple assignments, and through them I found a love of photographing flowers.

But shooting flowers just to shoot flowers was not enough. I wanted to make them different - unique. So, I took my newly developed skills and created this set, using only Lightroom and submitted it as my final for the class. I hope you like it. It was a wonderful project. I feel I truly blossomed.

Tranquility Farms

A few Sundays ago, Tom and I met a few of our friends (Jay, Roseanne and Maeve) for a day in the country at Tranquility Farms. It was a beautiful autumn day full of hay rides, corn mazes, pumpkin picking, and even pumpkin slingshotting? We had a blast!

The colors are so wonderful in the Fall, aren’t they?!
