Project 6: Cable Knit Scarf

By brian, July 21, 2010 21:25

A couple of weeks ago – the day before he left for CA, Vinnie and I strolled into my local knitting store to pick out some yarn. I had my eye on making this cable knit scarf from a book I bought by Erika Knight and wanted to pick out something fun in a bright blue. While we were there, Vinnie asked if I would make him something if he bought the yarn. I said, “Sure – I’ll even make you this scarf that I really wanted to try.” So he purchased two skeins of Tangy Spice super bulky yarn from Lion Brand. After a few days of working it, I realized that two skeins was not enough at all… so I went back to my shop and picked up a couple more skeins last week. I had a great time learning cables with this project. It came out very even too! And it is SUPER warm! I mean – I was sweating making it! It’s going to be great for Vinnie, who will be cruising to Alaska soon. I think he’s going to need it! Anyway, there are a few pictures of the scarf below. Perhaps Vinnie will send me a picture of himself in it as well – so that I can post it here (hint hint).

Also, I think it’s about time I invested in tags for my work… What do you think? Perhaps something like “be knits” or “knits by brian” or “brianjamesedwardsknits” or “made with love by be” or just “be.” My friend Dara would probably vote for “BJE#1.”

I wonder what my next project will be!

Project 5: Tom’s Scarf

By brian, June 25, 2010 23:13

So I’m starting to feel like this website is going to be all about knitting in the future… especially since all of my time is taken up by work and wedding planning and family. All I seem to write about are my knitting projects, which I have been doing a lot of  because I am finding it completely relaxing. It’s nice to have something to escape to. And with my neice just being born June 17, and Tom getting a little mad at me for making all of these things for everyone else, well, I’ve had a lot to do. This past weekend, I finished this one for Tom- he really wanted a simple scarf. Check it out below (Photos by Vinnie Costa). Next Wednesday, in class, I’m going to learn to make socks. Yay!

Project 4: Kitty Pillow

By brian, June 13, 2010 15:02

In the middle of working full-time and planning a wedding, I somehow managed to knit a new toy for my soon-to-be niece. This is my fourth project and the first I designed all by myself. I designed it to be a pillow as well as a toy- fit for a newborn and complete with embridered facial features for safety.  It is knitted from extremely soft, plush baby blanket yarn in blue with purple threading.  I think it came out pretty well.

I can’t wait to give it to her once she is born! Hurry up and get here baby Privitere-Williamson! :)

Metamorphosis

By brian, June 2, 2010 23:26

The days get shorter and shorter. Time is speeding by. I can’t believe it’s been over two months since I last blogged. I can’t believe I wake up every night at 3am. Or stranger still is my new power:  waking up in the morning before my alarm goes off. I am morphing. I am aging. I’m no longer a kid.

That’s OK.

Well, everything except the  waking up bullshit. That just sucks.

Must See: Snickers

I know this may be old news for some of you, but for those of you who haven’t seen the “new” snickers commercials – you HAVE to. I’ve posted them below:

Really Random Thoughts

By brian, March 15, 2010 20:02

Today I weighed myself and I have lost 14.8 lbs. Not too shabby, but still a little flabby. Can you believe it’s the middle of March already? WTF? I am  disappointed by the fact that at 30 years old, I still have acne. Tom does dishes so much better than me. Pumpernickel bread with raisins is the shit. I am attending an LGBT expo next week and kinda excited about it! Shake weights commercials are RIDICULOUS! Do all Italians YELL when they are on the phone…. or is it just the Priviteres? I really want to see the new Alice and Wonderland movie. My kitties are so freakin cute right now. My ring is getting to be too big for me now that I’m losing weight. Who knew you could lose weight in your fingers? I just love salt & vinegar potato chips. I want some right now. Bloody Mary’s are amazing. Why do families have the power to make us crazy? Why do we give them that power? Apartment hunting is hard, especially when you don’t have the money to move. The older we get the faster time flies. That really sucks. I’m thinking about researching the effects of a marriage in a persons developmental process.  I wonder if there is anything interesting out there on the topic. I want more merman Christmas ornaments. I am so glad I quit smoking. Planned procrastination is smart but it’s not procrastination. I wish would have joined the Peace Corps. I need to be knitting. Everyone should leave their house right now to buy Strawberry Shortcake Skinny Cow Ice Cream Sandwiches. They are AMAZING!  Don’t be jealous of my boogie. Naptime.

FYI: Chuck E. Cheese

The food is not as bad as everyone says and the chocolate cake is amazing, but it will mess you up.

I’m 30.

Grown.

By brian, March 4, 2010 23:18

It’s March the 4th. My birthday. Today I turned 30. Thirty. Wow. Time really flies, doesn’t it? Just yesterday I was in high school, talking about all of the things I wanted to do before I got old… you know, thirty. There were all of these crazy things on my list like, I should be acting on Broadway and living in NYC; I should be married and have a kid, and be rich.  I am happy to say that I am living in NY and I’ll be married this year. And even though I am not acting, I found a career and a profession that I truly love and am happy doing. In some ways, more than theatre. And hey- I’ll be married this year!  Talk about making it happen!

It’s a bit foolish to think of myself having a kid right now though. When I do, I imagine my mother at my age now with an 11 year old son and a 9 year old daughter and I am just completely overwhelmed. A baby is one thing- perhaps a little more down the road that is, but to be in my mothers shoes at my age today…. well I’m glad I’m not.

All in all, I think thirty will be great. I look forward to a year of being grown. Especially after I just spent the evening at Chuck E. Cheese playing video games, eating cake and ice cream and dancing with a mouse in a room full of children.

Yeah – thirty is going to be a great one.

Perhaps I should create a new list of dreams/goals for my next milestone – say, 50. Here goes:

  • Travel to Italy
  • Have a doctorate
  • Own a house
  • Laugh every day
  • Still be married
  • Spend more time with my family and friends

It’s been a pretty great road thus far. :)

Busy Busy Busy

I haven’t been writing as much as I’d like on this blog. For those of you that don’t know, I am planning my wedding. A lot of my “free time” has been dedicated to that. If you like, you can visit my wedding blog to see what I’ve been up to. We created it with the idea that the site would chronicle our journey of creating a gay wedding. Check it out at http://www.thegayweddingexperience.com.
